Eruv Construction To Begin
By Alex Sholem - Wednesday 28th December 2005
Construction of the Edgware eruv is set to begin in January after the project cleared its final hurdle.
Plans for the eruv, which will take in sections of the Edgware and Hale wards, were first passed by Barnet Council's Planning and Environment Committee in November last year.
But although the Edgware Eruv Committee had hoped to have the project completed this Chanukah, it did not receive a highway licence from the Council until last week.
A spokesman for the Committee told Jewish News: It's certainly encouraging that Barnet Council has moved forward with this. As soon as the licence is fully signed and completed we are hopeful to get construction started in January.
Cllr Matthew Offord, Barnet Council's Cabinet member for Environment and Transport, paid tribute to the strong cooperation between council officers and Edgware Eruv Committee. He added: "I am pleased that legal hurdles have been cleared and progress has been made over this issue.
