Really? An eye witness reported a fireball but I assumed he meant from impact.
As a youth I used to weep in butcher's shops.
Just my guess. It was a brand new plane. Bad weather true but unlikely to be a catastrophic mechanical failure.
What about lightening? The weather was tempestuous enough perhaps.
