    Re: Is this real?

I think Madeline means does the Hezbollah do these things. And the answer is yes and worse: ambulances to shuffle soldiers and munitions to and fro for instance is even worse. Building rocket launchers in chimneys into billboards and wells is typical in Lebanon. This is what they do, hide behind civilians. There is absolutely no apprehension about fighting out off a kindergarten or hospital for them. They are completely un-vexed. They expect us to studiously abide with the Geneva conventions whilst they openly flaunt any civilized rules of warfare. Where is their Goldstone Report I wonder...

Thank you. This is very sad indeed. I had hoped it to be a photoshopped picture, or may have another explanation.
Now why again are people not condemning these people? Why do some think they must side with them?
Sorry, but my head doesn't wrap around even the thought of it.

It may be more of a transporter than a launcher.

A ghetto fabulous BM-21 Grad? Unguided artillery rockets have to have fin stabilizers. It's doubtful they can build rockets with spring loaded fin stabilizers that pop out when it leaves a launch tube. So they use trucks to smuggle 9 rockets or more at a time, take them out and set up a launch tripod on the ground. I guess it's possible they have some better rockets they got from Iran or China or Syria, ones that can launch from a tube. But then they risk getting the truck destroyed right after it fires.

One would think the truck would just flip over. The whole thing looks very unstable. Too top heavy. No?

    Re: Is this real?

That's why a real Grad launcher is a 3 axle 10 wheeled truck. I guess if it's like first gear on my old Porsche which, according to the engineers is supposed to be mushy and hard to find because 'you only need it once!' and you were going to back the truck up against a wall or berm, fire them off and run like hell?

In any case artillery rockets fill a niche. They go further than field mortars but cause less damage. An artillery rocket of a given size, say 88mm has about the destructive capacity of a field mortar around 65mm or less. So they go further and they're far less accurate and they blow less stuff up. A 65mm mortar has a ~0.85 probability lethality radius of no more than 25 meters under ideal conditions. That means that 6 times out of 7 in an open flat field an unprotected human will get killed within no more than 75 ft of the impact point. The problem with artillery rockets is that you don't know where they are going with anything resembling predictive accuracy.

Also you note in the truck picture the angle of launch is quite low. That means highly reduced range.

Ok, I believe you I got the shoot, then boom. That's about it.
Although the range and accuracy make sense.
So by that reasoning, a 65mm mortar calls for a suicide mission, if I understand it correctly.

    Re: Is this real?

IEDs against people can use anything. The point being a big rocket does less damage than a big mortar. A rocket is a terror weapon plain and simple. If no one is harmed it's still a terror weapon because no one knows what it will do. And the further it goes the less connected the victims are to it happening. It literally comes out of the blue. A mortar has maybe a 3 mile rang. If you're 3 miles from the Hamastrodome Stadium, your antenna should be swiveling around already. But 18 miles away you walk around fat dumb and happy expecting nothing. This was what Hitler expected the V-2 rocket would accomplish.

OK, info overload. Going to digest it. Thanks.
