A British-born Muslim convert has been charged with conspiring with others in Malaysia, Pakistan and Afghanistan to bomb Israeli diplomatic missions in Australia.
Jack Roche, 49, appeared in a Perth court yesterday with his lawyer, saying the Australian citizen would plead not guilty to two charges of conspiracy.
"He disavows the use of violence," lawyer Robert Mazza said of Roche, the first Australian to be charged by police since authorities began their counter-terrorism raids across the nation following the Bali bombing.
While police stressed the arrest had no connection to the October 12 attack, Roche admitted recently he was a follower of Bali suspect Abu Bakar Bashir, the alleged spiritual leader of radical Islamic group Jemaah Islamiah.
Ladies and gentlemen remember these five words “Islam is a peaceful religionâ€.
There is no radical Islam it’s all a figment of your imagination. If you don’t believe me ask George Bush. Don’t waste your time asking other world leaders like Putin they don’t know what they are talking about.
