Abbas Rejects Idea of Declaration of Unilateral Statehood

PA President Mahmoud 'Abbas said he was opposed to the notion of a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood, which he said would constitute "a leap in the air and a miscalculated step." He added that one of the options before the Palestinians was to appeal to the U.N. General Assembly to demand Palestinian independence in accordance with Resolution 377 (V), "Uniting for Peace."

Well, he's right not to bother with a unilateral declaration, considering he has widespread support at the UN for an international declaration of a Palestinian state. From their point of view, it's far better.
