Re: who here believes in god?

One footprint I see is mans ability to reason and to be spiritual as well as physical. I should think that many Jews would also describe its victories against huge odds as footprints too.
Disbelief in God is an admission that man has no soul and is led purely by instinct, habit or conditioning.
I believe in a creator because of events that happened in my life. Have you ever had a voice inside your head tell you that something will happen and within one week it does?
This has happened to me a few times now and usually while I was occupied with something else totally unrelated. it was never about winning lotto numbers unfortunately.
You may try to explain this away but I know what I know and so I will stick with Hashem because he has stuck by me.

the Ten Commandments is in the Torah, Gospel and Quran

Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is One God!
Therefore you shall adore the Lord your God
    with all your heart,
    with all your soul,
    with all your mind,
    and with all your strength.
    [Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Mark 12:29 and Luke 10:27, Quran 3:18]

Glass half full. I like that. On the other hand, we could wonder why we've had to suffer so much in the first place if God is on our side.

Wishing it were otherwise doesn't make it so.

    Never.

    I sympathise :P

Fine by me. Faith is faith, no amount of rational argument is going to change your mind.

Yes, let's insult everyone by calling them a soul-less animal for not sharing your beliefs, shall we.

I don't believe in God. But the debates about Gods are always much more interesting when we DONT quote ANY religious Texts
I believe in God but not in a religious way (I mean organised religion). I believe in a greater intelligence, an over arching force, the creator of all things but don't ask me to explain more because he (and I use the word "he" loosely) is infinitely beyond our understanding. Of course it begs the question, who created the creator etc but there is no answer to that. Just as science does not have an answer to everything. In fact everytime it solves one riddle, the answer raises several more questions ...

Whether we use the scientific method or faith, we just don't have all the answers and I suspect that we will never have all the answers. I guess it could be argued that my belief too is a form of religion because of my faith in a God. But the difference between my belief and any organised religion is that I am willing to change my views based on evidence, I don't believe in any dogma or doctrine. And I don't have evidence that God ever dictated anything to any human being in a religious sense. I strongly suspect that all religious dogma is man made. Often with a good purpose in mind but sometimes for narrow, selfish and sinister purposes of some individuals. We have seen plenty of evidence of the latter, in history ...

We don't have 'souls', whatever that means. Why would that be insulting?

Why would you or anyone feel insulted by this if you dont believe in God? I have noticed however that when someone has found comfort in in a spiritual belief there are those who are angered by it because "They're not doing it the right way"
As a kid I sat in church, sang the songs and went through all the rituals. I couldn't accept that then and I still can't now. I follow no organised religeon but I do know that there is a higher being that influences my life.

I don't know but our universe sure seems real to me.

Oh yea, and I also believe in what bararallu said. We are only significant to ourselves but in the vastness of the universe, how significant are we really?
