Who receives the most direct foreign aid?

Well Sudan does. But close on their heels are the Arabs in Gaza and YESHA. And on a per capita basis those Arabs receive 9x more than Sudan and 39x more than Congo where about 4 million people have been exterminated since the mid 1990's. And when you add in the direct foreign aid that also goes to Lebanon and Jordan, than the Arabs become the largest recipients of direct foreign aid, outright.

I'm glad Sudan is getting as much as it gets; but I wonder where it has all been going. The last I heard, there were hardly any paved roads in S. Sudan. With any amount of proper management, S. Sudan should soon be self-sufficient, because it has large, productive oil fields. For years, the Moslem North took away half the wealth of the South; and the massive foreign aid helped the South maintain itself and fight for independence.

The aid to the Arab world is, at best, pouring down a black hole. In the case of Gaza, it is simply promoting terrorism and encouraging the people not to negotiate for peace with Israel.

On the supply end of things, here in the United States, I see no reason why we should continue all this foreign aid. We are so deeply in hock, our survival as a country is at stake.

Welcome to the forum....I agree with the above....I think America should stop ALL foreign aid (including to Israel) and concentrate on fixing her own roof....I say this as an Israeli....

    Its a two edged sword.
In many cases, foreign aid has too many strings attached ( see Israel), on the other hand, we don't have enough oversight.
Yes, most foreign aid is bribery, and lets face it, and we need to stop the madness, unless we want to keep borrowing from China to give to the rest of the world, and end up handing the world to China.

The United States should give aid to no one at all. Few countries appreciate it. What American4Israel mentioned about Gaza is correct. Having instant funds for rebuilding purposes encourages this endless warfare. It is only human nature.

There was recently an article in the Los Angeles Times complaining of famine in Somaliland. We will soon get people demanding that the United States send financial aid there, to the very same people who enthusiastically support piracy. It is insane.

The United States has a streak of naivete in its international politics, going at least as far back as President Wilson, who said that the United States needed to make the world "safe for democracy." Other countries and organizations see this, and bend United States policy to their own ends.

The Versailles Treaty that concluded the First World War was an example. The United States should have opposed its harsher provisions, but instead went along with what the guileful British and wily French wanted. It so unjustly punished and bankrupted the Germans that they became a culture of "victims" ready to lash out at anyone they deemed an outsider. Within 15 years, the Nazi monster had risen up, and the world is still affected by the 12 years of butchery that followed.

Could you imagine Chinese/Mandarin as the international language? [SIGH]

I'm working on my Spanish now, Mandarin will be next. Gotta prepare, at least until we elect some people with brain.

My daughter speaks English and Mandarin, and is trying to learn Cantonese. My son speaks English, Mandarin and Japanese, and is working on Korean. My son-in-law speaks Teochew, English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and my grandchildren will never need an interpreter. I still remember some German and Vietnamese; but eventually, I will have to get back into learning gear if I want to keep up with this family.

The language issue isn't really that bad, and I've found the South Chinese to be wonderful people. All that said, I love my native America, and want to see her saved from Goldman Sachs and Ben Bernanke. We are being pillaged by our own people.

I speak English, Australian, American and a little Canadian, four languages is enough for anyone.
I also believe that charity begins at home. There are too many people in the west struggling below the poverty line trying to feed their kids. It's sick that aid is sent to overtly terrorist countries so that they can buy mobile phones and sit on their arses all day planning how to bring us down, while we work ours off and pay a high taxes on everything we drink or smoke.

    Farmboy,

I lived in Sydney in '66 and '67. Eventually I did pick up some ability at understanding Strine, but could never speak it. Canadian is much easier, since I have a Midwestern accent: I just have to mindful of their "ouu"s, and you'd mistake me for a native. Aren't cigarette taxes a charm? The more you smoke, the more money Uncle Sam makes; and because you'll probably die early, he doesn't have to worry about Obamacare. I smoked Capstans in Australia, which were something like smoking tarpaper. By God's grace, I've been smoke-free for many years now, and hope to see my great-grandchildren.

You're right: Foreign aid's a crock. We supposedly use it to buy influence; but I think it's actually the other way around: Our Moslem clients buy OUR influence, a politician at a time, and the taxpayer foots the bill with foreign aid. It's a scam.
