Anti Semitism on the Rise in Europe, Kosher meat being banned!!

5 countries now ban production of kosher meat as synagogues burn, boycott of Israel continues
    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=29841

    Snip from the article...

One of the first steps in Adolf Hitler's anti-Semitic drive in the creation of his Third Reich was instituting a ban on the kosher slaughter of animals.

Today, as a new wave of ugly, and sometimes violent, anti-Semitism sweeps through the European continent, at least five countries have banned kosher food production, and one of them is considering halting all import of kosher meat.

The latest nation to join the movement is Holland, where the move was guised in concern for cruelty to animals.

I couldn't find any confirmation of the kosher aspect of the story on ADL.org. Can anyone track this?

This story orginated on israelnationalnews.com, but it is mostly unfounded.

    from boycott watch:
Boycott Watch spoke to a spokesperson at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington, D.C. regarding this matter. We were informed that although there was an animal cruelty law problem in the method of ritual slaughter, the problem has since been resolved to the satisfaction of both the Jewish community and Dutch law.
There are groups in several European countries that want to ban kosher slaughtering (Switzerland for example), though infact most don't focus on kosher foods, but halal as the practice is much more widespread.

Notice that the worldnet article does not mention the supposed other 4 countries that ban kosher, as far as I know there is no country in Europe that bans kosher slaughter.

Chill off (in this particular case): the same ban affects (or would affect) "halal" butchers as well . Not that "accepted" methods of slaughter were much better, but I am not going to discuss the subject

A clear case of unfounded hysteria with the goal to harm the European image and present Europe as anti-semitic.
It is also remarkable that this mostly originates from people who do not live in Europe...

...more like a clear case of panic, if you ask me (of course, no one did - but here I go anyway). This is not completely unfounded: there indeed were reports of talk of banning Kosher slaughter; but it seems like the matter was ultimately resolved to everyone's relative satisfaction...

What is the specific case of Switzerland. That did not appear to be a plan but a reality.

Apparently it is a reality in Switzerland:

Zurich © (www.koshertoday.com)…Despite lobbying by the Swiss Jewish community, Switzerland has decided not to ease a law that bans kosher slaughter of animals, reports the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The Swiss government said though that it would continue to guarantee the import of kosher meat for that country's kosher consumers. Swiss Jewry was already rocked by reports last week of revelations about the duplicity of the Swiss Police during the Nazi era, further proof that its neutrality only resulted in turning away Jews towards certain death. Switzerland remains one of the few European countries still to ban kosher slaughter.

It does seem however, that kosher food is still readily avaidable in Switzerland as package holiday companies still advertise kosher tours of Swizterland and there are quite a few kosher restaurants.

The ban also applies to halal slaughtering too.

OK, but it is not the whole truth. It was never the purpose to harm the jewish community, as halal food is targetted as well, it was a measure activated by animal rights groups.

Wouldnt be so sure. There are always some environmentalist who cant stand any pain for an animal, but there are also a number of antisemites who could care less. If they voted for the bill we have reason to be suspicious. And if they leant direct support to it...
Not enough has been published on the subject to get a clear idea as of yet. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility of anti-semitism playing a very direct role.

I'll think you'll find (at least in the UK) that most campaigners tend to concentrate on halal foods as there is much more halal slaughtering than kosher slaughtering in Europe.

Maybe you just can't admit that they're not too hit in the head with muslims either. There is an undercurrent of intolerance, extremism and vaguely ethnic politics in the Green movement.
