Israel to offer Turkey aid following quake

DF standing by to send assistance after 7.2-quake hits Turkey's southeast; Foreign Ministry says Israel will send help if Turkey agrees to accept it.

Such a great strategic move. This will surely ease the political hostility of Turkey for some time.

It is the right thing to do regardless of the politics.

In all fairness, Turkey did send help to us when we had the big fire....

They were worried it would burn some Hezbollah hardware.

There is no greatness there only necessity. The Turks have learned a lot since the last big earthquake, and their rescue teams today are more sophisticated than they were then, but we are all attached to each other with a gordian knot. Turkey will not say no, I don't expect.

Once again Israel steps to the fore lending aide even to one of its detractors; moreover, they will likely be demonized or scorned, if not now, later by the Turkish overlords and those they aided.

It appears that the earthquake is located in a sensitive area - where the Turks attack the Kurds. If it is indeed the case, I don't think Turkey would be interested in any foreigners -not just the Israelis - snooping around.

It looks like they are turning down assistance from everyone. I think Sylvia is right that they don't want to have foreigners running around especially while they are in the middle of anti-Kurdish operations.

Turkey has not yet made any call for international assistance after Sunday's powerful earthquake in which many people were feared killed, a Foreign Ministry official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Turkey had received offers of assistance from dozens of countries, including Israel, and so far had declined help from all of them...

An ideal opportunity to commit genocide and blame it on the earthquake. Expect the see the death count climb precipitously.

I think Erdogan will end up being in a lot of trouble if he doesn't accept aid in the very near future. According to Israel radio Turkish TV watcher, Turkish TV is making the point repeating over and over that Israel has offered aid and that it was refused and that Shimon Peres has pleaded with Abdullah Gull to accept aid but to no avail. Not something the quake survivors are likely to forget.

What is this drama about? The earthquake wasn't as bad as the one in 1999 or in Haiti.

It seems like Turkey is NOT singling out Israel with rejecting offers to help. They just seem to have it under control themselves (or at least they think so and at least for now).

They're accepting help from Iran, of course.
