Muslim Brotherhood kicks Obama in the head

    From news article:

Yet another cold ly that won't give you warm fuzzies about President Obama's treatment of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak a year ago. The Muslim Brotherhood is threatening to use any
    cutoff of US aid
as a pretext to abrogate its treaty with Israel. And a poll says 70% of Egyptians are saying "
    right on
    ."
El-Erian told the London-based newspaper Al-Hayat that the US needs to understand that "what was acceptable before the revolution is no longer," and that should the aid provisions outlined in the treaty be modified, it could open the door to further changes in the agreement.

A Gallup poll released last week found 71 percent of Egyptians oppose US economic aid to their country, and a similar percentage oppose Washington sending direct aid to civil society groups.

    ...

The poll found Egyptians are just as likely to support aid from fellow Arab states as they are to oppose it from the US. But Fayza Abouelnaga, Egypt's minister of planning and international cooperation, noted recently that her country had received only $500 million of the $3.7 billion promised by Saudi Arabia, $500 million of the $1.5 billion pledged by Qatar and none of the $3 billion promised by the United Arab Emirates. Abouelnaga said in December that Egypt's foreign debt had reached $34.4 billion, representing 15% of its gross domestic product.

They're going to have to kidnap a lot more hippy 'acitivists' to make up the difference.

Re: Muslim Brotherhood kicks Obama in the head

Muslim Brotherhood tells Obama that withholding aid abrogates the treaty with Israel:

The Muslim Brotherhood has effectively demanded an annual bribe in the form of US aid by saying that
it will 'review' Egypt's treaty with Israel if the United States cuts aid
    .
"We (Egypt) are a party (to the treaty) and we will be harmed so it is our right to review the matter," Essam el-Erian, a senior Brotherhood leader, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

"The aid was one of the commitments of the parties that signed the peace agreement so if there is a breach from one side it gives the right of review to the parties," added Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the biggest group in the newly elected parliament.

His remarks are likely to increase pressure on all sides to resolve one of the worst crises in US-Egyptian ties since the treaty was signed. In similar comments, FJP leader Mohamed Mursi said in a statement that US talk of halting the aid was "misplaced," adding that the peace agreement "could stumble."

For Obama it's a low cost win win strategy. He saves some money, gets the Egyptians to wage war on the Jews.
