Israel should "learn" from the SRI LANKAN govt about to tackle terrorists, the sri lankan govt destroyed the tamil tiger rebels by slowly tightening the noose around the area they occupied, same as like hamas occupy gaza, yes the sri lankan govt were blamed for war crimes, but they won, no more tamil terrorist attacks, their leadership was killed and their supporters jailed for very long time, why cant israel do this to hamas?

Its like israel wants the conflict to continue for some secret agenda they have, i really wanna know the truth about why israel dosent crush hamas once and for all, is israel scared of the americans cutting funding?

is israel scared of the world headlines calling israel, murderers, terrorists, war criminals, gaza a ghettto, etc....

Please dont anyone say because its different terrain etc... thats a copout, you can use the same analogy that applied to sri lanka as to israel/gaza,

the tamil tigers occupied the north east of the island thet they lauched their attacks from, just like gaza is on israels south east where they launch their attacks from, slightly different but the same tactics used by the sri lankan army to crush the tamil tigers can be used by the IDF to crush hamas,

im sure the Sri lankan military commanders would be willing to travel to israel to show israel the techniques they used, as i realise the israeli army is more advanced than sri lankas army was, but at least the sri lankan army has to will to kill the terrorists, (and end the actual war!!) that were constantly a threat to their civillian populations, something israel has yet to achieve.

When national survival is at stake, the collateral damage issue decreases. If Israel attacks Iranian nuke sites there will be LOTS of collateral damage; both because Iran puts civilians near their sites and you are bound to have nuclear waste spreading from the sites themselves.

Israel and Gaza remind me of the Star Trek episode back in the 1960's in which two planets kept a war going 1000 years by launching computer attacks versus real attacks (to minimize collateral damage) and those determined to be "killed" by the latest attack had to report to the extermination chamber to be zapped to death.

Very civil, very clean, and very long term.

Israel and Gaza are the same. Gaza pretends to destroy Israel with missiles and Israel invades Gaza; gets 100 soldiers killed and then pulls out; only to do the same thing again 8 years later- ad nauseum. Very civilized, very clean and very long term.

National survival is not at stake in the case of Gaza. Hamas and the other terrorist groups there do not come anywhere close to having the ability to destroy Israel no matter how much they want to. There is definitely no need to target Arab civilians, whom Hamas does not really care about. That would just be giving them a propaganda coup. If they become a big enough threat, Israel will reoccupy them.

Iran purposely put many of their nuclear sites near population centers. The fact that there will be a lot of innocent people killed when the U.S. or Israel is forced to use military force to destroy those facilities is entirely the fault of the Iranian government.

The ends do not justify the means, Jericho Missle. The Sri Lankan military wasn't just blamed for war crimes, they were guilty of them. A lot of innocent Tamils were killed in Sri Lanka. The fact that they won does not excuse this.

I don't think there is a silver bullet solution. Israel will win this battle by out-relentlessing the relentless (Hamas and their ilk). They say they are willing to wage this war for generations, Israel has to convince them that it too is willing and able to wage this war for generations

I think that eventually people will get sick of giving aid to terrorists and then having to listen to leftists harping on about what a raw deal tha arabs are getting. People are wising up where their taxes are going and the tune of the left is becoming last years melody as the west does it tough too. I feel that it wont be long before Gaza has a rude awakening as to what the real world is about, no spare cash, no high tech entertainment and certainly no spare cash for a lost cause when the wives are in their earole for housekeeping. One nagging wife is painfull, just imagine four or five of them as these blokes have. Once there are real shortages, the violence will end as people strive to feed their families thus peace will follow as night follows day. Abbas has made his money and the chances are that he will retire to a condo with some slapper, on some beach in the US, sod the rest of his brothers.
There will always be the arms peddlers trying to stir up the clag, but with no spare cash Gaza will be off their list.

Iron Dome is only designed to stop short-range rockets (4-70 km). It doesn't work against mortars and medium to long range missiles.

Another threat in addition to Gaza and Iran is Hezbollah in Lebanon.

I think the sri lankans cared what the world thinks, but they balanced out that protecting their people against the tamil tiger terrorists was more important than a few negative headlines and protests around the world.

Olmert was in the soup and as soon as he was no longer PM he could be indicted for all his corrupt dealings. If you study the timeline and the operation it's not hard to see why it happened when it did. Do you remember that they would not cancel the elections because they saw it as a winning strategy. Fortunately Olmert was shafted by his own party and he is still dealling with the aftermath of his many crimes all these years later. Sharon has taken the easy way out, he's sleeping through it.
Cast lead was a political ploy, nothing more. It achieved NOTHING positive.

Untill they start receiving bills for more half a million dollar anti missile missiles. Iron dome is a quick fix but certainly not a long term solution.
