Top Syrian Minister Killed in Damascus Attack

The fighting is heating up in Damascus and I have heard reports that Syria is pulling units back to the capital from along the border with the Golan.

A suicide bomber struck Wednesday in central Damascus. Arab media outlets reported that Syria’s Defense Minister, Dawoud Rajha, is among the dead.

The bomber hit the National Security building during a meeting of Cabinet ministers and senior military officials.

The Syrian Free Army claimed responsibility for the attack.

Syria has a very large stockpile of chemical and biological weapons in about 20-30 different facilities around the country.

Now, WMD's are held by countries for "emergency" reasons right?

now let me play devils advocate for a moment.

Lets say im assad, my regime is about to collapse, i have nothing to lose, now would seem to be a good time to deploy my best weapons, wouldnt it?

considering my capital city is being infiltrated by terrorists, i mean if the syrian regime dosent use its WMD's now to kill its opponents, what was the reason
to have a chemical and biological weapon stockpile in the first place?

just to give the scientists something to do all day to earn their pay?

Bashir could still stay in power, if he deployed some nerve agents strategically and killed most of the rebel opposition, he could still stay in power,
sure if he used nerve gas to kill a few thousand rebels, the US/britain/france, would probably conduct some air strikes, but without rebels attacking the capital,
he could still stay in power, and stay with the line, yes we have gassed thousands of terrorists, im sure russia/china would believe that line and still do business with bashir.

    any thoughts??

We may be witnessing a turning point within the next several hours - Assad is said to have left Damascus to the Alawite stronghold in he area of Latakia - The Presidential guard is said to be fighting with the rebel apparently they are close to the palace in Damascus. The situation is worsening IMO.

Mostly Sunni Muslims. The people of Syria have been brutalized by an Alawite-dominated dictatorship for some time now.

Dramatic announcement by the Russian Ambassador in Paris! (If true) Bashar Assad is ready to step down and leave Syria if it is permitted to him and his entourage to exit honorably. From Miki Gurdus (the guy who was the first to reveal to the world that something was going on in Entebbe)

A statement just this minute from Damascus is denying that the statements of the Russian Ambassador to French TV are true.

    More attacks in Damascus.

Arab media are reporting that rebel forces have shelled the palace of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. The military airport and intelligence headquarters in the capital allegedly were also bombed, according to the pan-Arab Al Arabiya television news network.

The unconfirmed report came following an intense round of overnight mortar bombing in the pro-Assad Alawite enclave, Mezze 86, close to the palace. However, it is difficult to verify such reports due to the government restrictions imposed on journalists entering the country, and no further details were available...

All these attacks in Damascus have Assad thinking about death:

I am Syrian, I am Syrian-made, and I must live and die in Syria
