Ok, so when we finally finish off the Arabs, we can have a nice little war amongst ourselves.

I'm taking Isiah for my side.

How is it that Jews can trace our lineage to the tribe of Benjamin?

We can trace our lineage from all of our own family histories. I doubt that millions of families just one day decided to say. "Hey I got an idea. Let's tell all of our decendants that were all decended from....whats a good name....ummm...BENJAMIN AND JUDAH. That's it. This is a great idea."

    I doubt it.

Also, according to Discover magazine, Jews are genetically differentt than other peoples. All peoples are different.

If you don't know basic Jewish history, which I thought you did because I assumed you were Jewish, but then again, this thread was made due to people like you.

Oh really? So then trace your family or any Jew's family who you know back to the tribe of Benjamin for me. This should be good.

According to the bible during the reign of Rehavam ten jewish tribes revolted against him and created a kingdom of Israel. The only two tribes who remained loyal to the king were the priviliged tribes of Juda (which David, grandfather of Rehavam, was from) and of Binyamin (the tribe of Saul). They formed the kingdom of Judea (Juda). A few centuries later the kingdom of Israel was destroyed and its population resettled (with no mentioning of their subsequent return). Today some historians argue that it might be just the aristocracy that was resettled, while the rest of israelis intermingled with judeans. In any case, unless the bible is grossly inaccurate on this, Juda and Binyamin tribes were our principal ancestors.

Ahh...I see, Benjamin joined Judah in the south to create Judea. I knew about the rest. This is what throws me, because you always hear about ten lost tribes and there are people today who can trace their lineage directly to the Levites (Kohanim), but I guess they were never given any land so....I'm still confused.

The kohen inherits his status from his father. Thus to know you are a kohen you don't need to know even your granfather. Of course, there might be always one false claimant which would start a whole line after him, but that might happen even to the royal dynasty.

Isnt there a particular gene specification that is being carried by most Jews and "Cohens" in particular by Y chromosone lineage? Apparently this gene can be traced back 3000 years and is most noticable among Jews rather then non-Jews. It is this Gene segment that has shown unique distinction between Jewish "Cohens" around the world.

Apart from that with the huge development in Genetic research it has become apparent that Jews have a distinctive designated area where Jews were supposedly have been descended from.. it is the mediteranean/ ME area (The Genetic research cannot "pinpoint" the exact location eg Israel rather a subcontinent area). Therefore the idea that Jews (Ashkenazi and Sephardi) are descended from the tribes of Israel is becoming more and more realistic.

Less than 1000 years ago very prominent Jewish figures were able to trace their family lineage specificaly to the kingdom of Israel in forms of family trees. When persecution gave rise these documents were destroyed and Jews were no longer able to do this.

Question: How can Jews be genetically different... I for one believe that everyone has Judaism in them because it is the REAL RELIGION... that's how I see it cuz I am Jewish... but listen many Jews converted so your telling me all those convertees, their genes suddenly magically changed?? Explain...

Over the past 2000 years there have been minimal numbers of converts into Judaism. Only a few have converted to Judaism over the past 50 yrs. Their Genes dont change, but they are Jews. I dont think of them any less Jewish than me at ALL. In fact I am extremely pleased and gratefull that people who convert to Judaism are choosing to become a Jew and take on everything a Jew has to deal with (anti-semitism etc). When I was saying that Jews can trace their Genes to the Mediteranean/ME I was reffering to the majority of Jews (converts are a very small minority). You would be surprised how much an East European Jew has in common with a Persian Jew in genetic terms.

The same is true as with any other tribal affiliation. This is how we can trace our ancestry...No need to be a cock over it communication.
