Kuwait Foils Biochem Arms Smuggling From Iraq

1 Oct 2003 19:22 GMT DJ Kuwait Foils Biochem Arms Smuggling From Iraq -Newspaper

KUWAIT CITY (AP)--Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country, a Kuwaiti newspaper said Wednesday.

The pro-government Al-Siyassah, quoting an unnamed security source, said the suspects had been watched by security since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time." It didn't say when or how the smugglers entered Kuwait or when they were arrested.

The paper said the smugglers might have had accomplices inside Kuwait. It said Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah would hand over the smuggled weapons to an FBI agent at a news conference, but didn't say when.

Government officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

Iraqi Interior Minister Nouri Al-Badran met Tuesday with Sheik Nawwaf and discussed cooperation between the two countries in security matters. His visit is the first by an Iraqi interior minister to Kuwait since 1990.

And what else? It was Saddam and Bin Laden driving a truck across the border into Syria with an Iranian official in a bid to sell WMDs to Jacques Chirac? Were Hillary Clinton, Noam Chomsky and the President of the Sierra Club riding in back? And were they captured by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld in an act of extreme heroism?

I think it was more likely some of your brothers and/or sisters sending the WMD to Europe so that they could wipe out London. Perhaps they might just have passed through Europe and redirected to the US where they would wipe out a major city.

What's funny is, even the super conservatives at freerepublic are having a hard time with this one. Tell you what. If it's true, I'll happily wear egg on my face for a week, just like I said I would. If not, you are a total goose. Although, you can't be blamed for spreading garbage. This is the net after all.

WND Kuwait foils Iraqi-WMD smuggling attempt
Report: Biological warheads, chemical arms en route to Europe snagged

Following months of frustrated searches by hundreds of U.S. and British investigators for Saddam's weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, some have turned up in Kuwait, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyassah.

The pro-government daily reports Kuwaiti security forces foiled an attempted smuggling of $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country.

Citing an unnamed security source, Al-Siyassah said the smugglers had been under surveillance since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time."

No details about the suspects, possible accomplices, where the weapons came from in Iraq and how they were acquired were disclosed.

The smuggled arms will be turned over to an FBI agent by Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah, according to the paper. No time was given for the news conference where this handover is slated to take place.

The reported find of weapons of mass destruction comes on the eve of testimony by David Kay, the head of the CIA-led team of some 1,200 investigators, before House and Senate intelligence committees. Kay is due to offer an interim report on the status of their search for WMD in Iraq.

The Washington Post reports Kay is expected to float a working theory that the ousted Iraqi president was bluffing about possessing weapons of mass destruction in order to appear as more of a threat than he actually was.

Well, a day later and the major networks don't seem to have picked up on this ground breaking story. Any explanation?

Tough break for you too. I had my dancing shoes out and was prepared to dance a little jig in honor of Bush and Rumsfeld. Better luck next time.

I don’t have delusions of traveling around the world in my private jet like you do.

Associate Press (AP) reported the story and I posted several links. If you want explanations ask the major networks.

This is the latest from CNN on WMD:

    From news article:

No evidence of WMD expected at briefings

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two months after saying "solid progress" was being made, the CIA official leading the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was expected to tell members of Congress Thursday that his team has not found any banned weapons, sources said.

In other words, there is nothing about this bust in Kuwait.

Believe me, in one sense I would be relieved by such a bust. My world view would be quite a bit simpler if I felt I could trust what my President says.

Saddam has already possessed and used Chemical weapons and Killed
    Hundreds-of-Thousands both Internally and Externally.

Finding WMD wouldn't make Bush a Hero.. all of a sudden.
He is already a Hero for removing Saddam whether or not latest intelligence (or this News story) was accurate.

The ease with which you can not only absolve Bush, but make him a Hero, shows the utter bankruptcy of your position for demonizing him in the first place.
