Israeli left has a short memory span

I have come to the conclusion that most of the left has a problem with sort term memory:

    Fanning the flames of hatred

    By Roman Bronfman

Another day of Jewish victims somewhere in the world, and this time in a terrible attack on synagogues in Istanbul. The number of violent incidents worldwide against anything identified with the State of Israel and the Jewish people no longer leaves any doubt that this is a real wave.

Even a quick glance at the newspapers in recent weeks indicates the worrisome change in world public opinion: Israel as a symbol and Jews, in general - have been transformed from the helpless victims of the Naziextermination machine in to "the most dangerous country to world peace," as defined by the latest European Union Commission survey. This was a problematic survey from a structural point of view, so I shall reword the statement - Israel has become the most hated nation in the world.

How can this hatred toward us be explained, particularly in the developed European states? And why is it being expressed specifically now, and with such intensity? At first, Israel officially assumed that these were only marginal expressions of radicalization toward Israel. But when the waves of hatred spread and appeared on all the media networks around the world and penetrated every home, the new-old answer surfaced: anti-Semitism.

After all, anti-Semitism has always been the Jews' trump card because it is easy to quote some crazy figure from history and seek cover. This time, too, the anti-Semitism card has been pulled from the sleeve of explanations by the Israeli government and its most faithful spokespeople have been sent to wave it. But the time has come for the Israeli public to wake up from the fairy tale being told by its elected government.

The rhetoric of the perpetual victim is not a sufficient answer for the question of the timing. Why all of a sudden have all the anti-Semites, or haters of Israel, raised their heads and begun chanting hate slogans? Enough of our whining, "The whole world is against us."

After all, every country first takes care of its national interests and no other country has to be included among the fans of the Zionist effort. The time has come to look at the facts and admit the simple but bitter truth - Israel has lost its legitimacy in the eyes of the world and we are guilty for what has happened. This generalization is a bit harsh for me, so I will be more precise - not all of us, but our government. Even though I am absolutely certain that each one of its ministers really wants what is best for the country, the government is mistaken and is bringing calamity upon us.

The government is mistaken because it is conducting a destructive policy. No government in Israel has succeeded in solving the tragedy of the two peoples - the occupier and the occupied. Governments have had 36 years to do this, and no government has figured out how to be rid of the territories.

But this government, which Prime Minister Ariel Sharon heads, has brought the Palestinians' despair to new depths. Considering the criticism of the international community, there is only one nation left that insists on believing in the government's path - the Jewish nation, which backs up the government's actions time after time.

Where do we get our pretentiousness for such sympathy at a time when the Sharon government is conducting an unethical and inhumane policy? This is the answer to all the surveys that have been published around the world lately. This is the answer to all those "anti-Semitic" statements that have been voiced lately. This
is the answer to all the arsons, the murders and the terror attacks we have suffered.

The Jewish people, who went through a Holocaust just decades ago - a short moment in historical terms - must not oppress another people and deny them their rights and any shadow of hope for a future. We must not be blinded by the unrestrained support from "Uncle Sam" - even the United States is being run by a radical, aggressive government that is, therefore, also
    failing.

It is this government that entangled the "leader of the free world" in an unnecessary and painful war, and this government is responsible for the erosion of America's status in the world.

True, the roots of anti-Semitism are planted very deeply in the culture and history of Christian Europe. It is also reasonable to
assume that even the ideas of the liberals, who wanted to sever ties with traditional nationalism, will be unable to pull out these
roots. But if anti-Semitism was until now found exclusively in the extreme political fringes, Israel's continued policy of the cruel occupation will only encourage and fan the spread of anti-Semitic sentiments.

From this, I conclude that if Israel wants to be embraced by the family of nations as a full member, it must learn how to behave according to the accepted rules around the world - rules of ethics, fairness and justice.

The writer is a member of Knesset from the Meretz faction.
Ironically anti-Semites will have a field day with this. I have come to the conclusion that the Israeli left - or some fringes in it - have horrible memory. I guess for this guy, Oslo never even happened and Arafat's infrastructure of terror is some kind of figment of our imagination. I find this sort of self-guilt that "we must've done something wrong" absolutely disgusting. This Meretz man's countrymen are being blown up by weapons prohibited by Oslo yet he pins all the blame on Sharon - wake up! Sharon wasn't in power when Arafat was making his "moves" to transform the Palestinian Authority into a neo-Beirut. Maybe we sould've just all walked into the gas chambers because we must've done something wrong then as well? I might agree with the writer that Sharon's policies are taking Israel nowhere but it is far from inhumane to save the lives of your own citizens from people who have been taught to kill and die. According to the writer the Jewish nation is blind and doesn't see this "inhumanity". Huh?

Typical Meretz self-flagellation. The Israeli version of the self-hating Jew is the self-hating Israeli.

Of course, you are right that the whole argument hangs on bashing Sharon, and before anyone asks, no, Sharon is NO favorite of mine. No government in the past made a difference, and no government would have made any difference.

And the "problems" did NOT start with 1967! I really lose patience with the Left when they ignore facts they don't like.

I know. They act like history doesn't exist. Then we have their "brothers-in-arms", the self-styled "new historians" who claim to be "objective" and "rebut" the old "Zionist" version of history. While in fact they distort, lie and misclaim stuff they think they have 'discovered' while they have not discovered anything.

More absurdity coming our way, this time from the USA:

"Tikkun" Solidarity Mission Will Meet With Arafat
    17:15 Aug 12, '04 / 25 Av 5764

The extreme-left U.S.-based Tikkun organization is set to arrive Friday on a "solidarity trip" that includes a meeting with PLO chief Yasser Arafat and other Palestinian Authority officials. Israel has called upon world leaders, mostly with success, to boycott the PA leader for his involvement in anti-Israel terrorism.

During their visit, the group, which consists of both Jews and non-Jews, is scheduled to "offer prayers in a Christian Church" before setting off to Ramallah for a meeting with the head of the PLO, whom they refer to as "President Yasser Arafat", and a tour of the arch-terrorist's destroyed compound. In Hevron, the Tikkun tourists are to visit PA leaders in the city.

During the Tikkun "solidarity mission", the participants will also get to see the Israeli side. They will meet with heads of the extremist Gush Shalom movement, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), Machsom-Watch (which claims to be dedicated to the rights of Arabs at IDF checkpoints), as well as with Oslo-architect Yossi Beilin and the heads of the Shinui and Labor parties, Tommy Lapid and Shimon Peres. With Machsom-Watch, the group will "visit an Israeli check-point and observe house demolitions and land confiscation."

In addition, the group is also scheduled to visit what their itinerary calls an "Israeli settlement near Bethlehem," which is reportedly to be the Gush Etzion town of Efrat.

Tikkun is American publication http://www.tikkun.org headed by a certain "Rabbi" Michael Lerner who achieved some notoriety by first standing shoulder to should with the Nation of Islam, the AMC and the skinheads leeched on them and then being pubically outraged when those same antisemites refused to allow him to speak because he's a dirty Jew. Check it out for yourselves.

Michael Lerner's columns are so skitzo you would have to have a short term memory to read his columns and think he stands for anything at all besides being an abuse of contradictions.

Maybe he can relive the one other time he went to Israel, with a Mescalen trip while hiking.

There is a creature at the John Kerry forum who claims to represent Tikkun. He offers endless rationalizations supporting Arab terrorism then screams hysterically when somebody calls him on it. His average posting takes about four scrolls down to get through the vomit of words, and all are couched in the most self-aggrandizing language filled with preemptive condescension against anybody who would dare disagree with the programmed rhetorec. Quite the piece of work, and a real bully.

Abuse of contradictions is right. Everything he says he is doing, he isn't and everything he actually says, he denies having said. If this is Tikkun, I'd say they may be experiencing a bit bigger mass psychosis than could be explained by mescaline alone.

They'll probably be bored at the roadblock. There's really nothing to watch. I'm sure they will really enjoy getting in some action with the house demolition. I would not mind watching one myself.

I also did not imagine that Efrat is what they want to see. It actually looks like a real, normal city. They would want something with a few poorly-built houses and unpaved streets, and hours from civilization, so they can see how these nutty settlers torture themselves to live where no one belongs.

Leftist MK's words - that could readily apply to the secular messianic left

"We are facing a domestic enemy. That internal enemy is far more dangerous
today than Arafat or Assad or any other Arab figure. True, the internal
enemy is not very large in terms of the force at its disposal. We're talking
about no more than a few hundred people, about fanatical groups of the
extreme.... But those people constitute an existential danger because they
touch our most sensitive nerve. They touch our ability to survive as one
    society, democratic in character.

"...this is a determined minority that is absolutely convinced that it is
the elite. Only they know what is right for the State of Israel. Only they
can lead the State of Israel.... And for that end, every means is justified.
    Every means.

...they will bring Israel to a historic rift. At the moment of truth they
will not be able to give in without a fight. And the moment .... The enemy
is a fanatical domestic group that is trying to undermine Israeli democracy.

"When Israeli sovereignty is facing an unrestrained messianic minority ...

I'm switching to imported bottled water. Obviously someone's doped the national water system.

Ron Pundak and the biblical Bil'am have 2 things in common:

    1. They're both false prophets.
    2. They both talk out of their asses.

Oslo Architect Praises Barghouti as "Partner in Peace"
    12:32 Aug 25, '04 / 8 Elul 5764

"You are a true partner for peace," wrote Dr. Ron Pundak to Marwan Barghouti - who was recently convicted of murdering five Israelis. At least one Likud leader demands that Pundak be fired from the Peres Peace Center.

"You are a true partner for peace," the Director-General of the Peres Center for Peace, Dr. Ron Pundak, wrote recently to Marwan Barghouti - who was recently convicted of murdering five Israelis and sentenced to several life terms in prison. The court found that Barghouti was also indirectly responsible for the murder of some 30 other Israelis.

A senior aide in the Prime Minister's Office, Yoel Hason, demands that Pundak - one of the two architects of the original Oslo Accords - be fired. "I am stunned at the crooked thinking that led the Director of the Peres Peace Center to call a cruel murderer like Barghouti a 'friend' and a 'true partner in peace,'" wrote Hason to Labor Chairman Shimon Peres. "I am sure you are as shocked as I am by the acts of Dr. Ron Puncdak, which are not only in opposition to the essence of the Peres Peace Center, but are also a disgrace to those men, women and children for whose murder Barghouti was directly responsible. I turn to you with the unambiguous demand to fire Dr. Pundak from the Peres Center. His continued employment at the Center that bears your name is disgraces you."

Maariv, which reported Hason's letter today, reported the original Pundak letter to Barghouti yesterday. Pundak wrote to the Fatah-Tanzim commander, From knowing you, I am certain that the chains and bars will not weaken your resolve on the way to achieving peace. You may me encouraged by the fact that a large number of Israelis see in you a real partner. Your arrest is a terrible mistake, and I can only regret that the political and security leadership of Israel arrested you... I hope you are feeling well. The Palestinian people now needs, more than ever before, a young leadership that will lead it to peace and independence."

Pundak, who was a partner to the secret Oslo negotiations, explained to Arutz-7 what he felt were Israel's practical gains from the first seven years of the Oslo process. Pundak responded, "First of all, Israel is currently at the pinnacle of the process that I hope will lead to a final agreement between Israel and a Palestinian state..." He said this two weeks before the current Oslo War broke out.

    Go Blue And White!!!

Since Islamic countries control most of the available world oil supplies, the main power brokers in the EU will continue to bend over and grab their ankles, (kind of like "US interests" isn't it?). Russia recently found out that the real world villian comes from the Islamic camp. " Jews" are again becoming the scapegoat for stagnating European economies, and since Islam and Israel have interests in the Holy Mount in Jerusalem, Islam will continue to find yellow journalists in the EU to continue with their anti-semitic tirades. Besides, many free thinkers know that Israel is the only country with a pair big enough to take out another reactor. They already know the coordinates. GO BLUE AND WHITE!!!
