According to the above article, Norwegian intelligence had information that Al Qaeda would do an attack related to Spain's elections.

Ahava, al qaeda is at war with anyone who does not bow to their will. If anyone stands against them they will be attacked viciously.
And that goes for Muslims too. Al Qaida has shown again and again that they don't care about the religious makeup of their victims. In Morocco, in Saudi Arabia, in Indonesia, in America.

Presuming that this is Al Queda........and I must say I hate to use that term for it seems to have become as innocous as calling a vacumn a hoover, or a bandage a bandaid............but wouldnt it stand to reason that IF AQ were going to do another attack, that it would next attack Britian?

anyone know when Blair is up for reelection?

I would imagine that an attack against the USA would NOT serve the purpose of Al Queda for far too many Americans have forgotten the lesson of 911 and an attack I believe would only wake them up out of their slumber once again and have them looking at Bush instead of Kerry, who we all know, Al Queda would much rather have in the White House...........

The war against Islamism--21st century Nazism--has only just begun.

We are far from ready to unite in the fight against this scourge. As during the rise of Nazi Germany, there are many on "our" side who suggest we brought this evil upon ourselves through our ill-advised foreign policy.

Slowly, the average person will realize that no foreign policy errors could possibly excuse these massacres. Sept. 11 and March 11 are the result of profound evil; no just grievances, lack of tanks, or anger can ever justify the intentional taking of innocent lives--except to the members of an immoral Death Cult.

Hopefully, the majority of Spaniards will realize there is no difference between blowing up commuter trains in Madrid and blowing up commuter buses in Jerusalem. There is no difference between Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hizbullah, and their sponsors in Syria, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, on one hand, and whoever perpetrated the Madrid massacre, on the other.

According to the AQ press release claiming responsibility for the Madrid attack, Italy is next, then another attack on the USA (probably just in time for the election).

    They're targeting democracy itself.

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Spanish authorities investigating the Madrid terror attacks arrested five people on Saturday who they say are linked to a telephone card found with an undetonated bomb, the Spanish interior minister said.

A backpack containing the phone card and bomb was found on a train after Thursday's bombing attacks on commuter train stations in Madrid. Those 10 attacks killed 200 people and wounded more than 1,500, Interior Minister Ángel Acebes said.

Police detonated the bomb in a controlled explosion.

Three of those arrested were Moroccans, Acebes said, and two were Indian.

The backpack also held the explosive ECO; metal pieces intended to multiply a bomb's destructive effect, a detonator and a mobile telephone, the Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported. . . .

True. And the Muslim world has shown again and again that it considers massacring Jews and Americans justified. While few Muslims would admit to supporting Al Qaeda, many defiantly support groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and still others (such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations) only pretend to oppose terrorism.

And lets just hope they realize this before tommorrows election and dont vote in the wrong government due emotion.

My mother in law will be landing back in Spain in a few hours and she is under strict orders to call my cell phone at any hour and let me know what the real Spaniards have to say about what they will do if they believe it is AQ.

I too am soon going back and love it there and wish I was there now to get a pulse for all that is happening.

I believe it must be natural instinct not to want to blame the Muslim extremists as perhaps ETA is easier to ignore, but it suprises me that eve I chose to try and believe otherwise as I had only begun a thread here about 6 weeks ago, inquiring if anyone had any opinons on whether SPAIN would be the next country hit, for it was my opinon that it would be.............but that may have just been due my hyper interest in Spain as it is a second family home for all of us.........as Florida may be for many Americans.
And thank you Richard for your email and info regarding that at the time.

Italy I can understand, but as said above, I cant imagine that hitting the USA BEFORE the election will help them but only hurt them in Americans resolve to re-elect Bush.

Of course, I had heard only last week that those recent cancelled flights from Britain to the USA were a result NOT of Superbowl threats but Tony Blair just spoke of in a speech last week, threats made against Heathrow Airport.

    A SAD POSTCARD FROM SPAIN
Hello friends. We are two bloggers from Spain and first of all, we would like to thank Tim for his extremely kind invitation to post our thoughts and information on the developments surrounding yesterday’s atrocity in Madrid.

As you already know, yesterday was a black day here in Spain. Some bastards planted 13 backpacks full of dynamite aboard several commuting trains in Madrid, programmed to explode simultaneously around 8:00 am (rush hour). They killed 199 people and wounded 1462 (dozens of whom are in a very critical situation).

The images and testimonies that we’ve been watching are absolutely heart wrecking. Last night some of the people who were working in the mass morgue that was improvised in a convention center needed medical sedation because they couldn’t cope with what they were watching: dozens of people inside black plastic bags whose mobile phones kept ringing all the time. Several children in a school nearby one of the explosions were waiting for their parents to take them home. Their parents never came.

A woman who survived the blast has lost her husband, her two sons, and her grandsons. The radio reported this morning that she was so overwhelmed with the loss that she later tried to kill herself. In one of the destroyed trains they rescued a seven month old baby. They haven’t been able to find his parents and he has just died while in the ICU. The attack has killed people from eleven different nationalities.

From the first moment, everybody here pointed to ETA as the culprits. That Basque terrorist group has been killing Spaniards for more than 30 years, claiming more than 800 lives (not counting these last attacks). And they have been trying to hit Madrid with a big one for some time. In February two terrorists were arrested carrying half a ton of explosives to Madrid. On Christmas Eve they tried an operation identical to what happened yesterday. The attack was thwarted when Spanish police arrested two ETA terrorists with backpacks full of explosives aboard trains en route to Madrid.

Later in the day some news pointed to Al Qaeda or other Islamic terrorists as possible authors of the massacre. There’s not enough elements to dismiss this possibility, though some of the allegations sound more like a disinformation campaign than anything else.

ETA was, and still is the most probable perpetrator of the monstrosity that happened yesterday in Madrid. John Chappell at IberianNotes says why.

Whoever did this, we are going to know soon. Maybe it will take only some hours; maybe it will take days, weeks or even more. The problem is that everybody seems to be in a hurry about it. Why? We don’t particularly see any significant difference if this was done by Al Qaeda or ETA. Two hundred people have been killed. We really hoped that the world has learned that terrorism is terrorism, regardless the “root causes” or “motives” that inspire it. Prime Minister Aznar just said “beyond this initial speculation, no society can accept that there may be explainable and unexplainable terrorisms. There are no nuances between religious and ethnic fanaticism, only nuances in their excuses. This is what we are confronting”.

However, with a general election on Sunday, the political crossfire has already started. Only a day after the attacks. Too many in the anti-war crowd (and that’s a damn big crowd here) are openly wishing that this has been done by Al Qaeda because in their sick minds that would allow them to blame PM Aznar as ultimately responsible of the attacks after aligning Spain with the U.S. in the war against terrorism, against their wishes.

Some top officials in the Socialist Party, currently in the opposition and who hope to win in next Sunday’s elections, are on record saying the government is hiding information about the terrorist acts and even that “the Partido Popular government is under suspicion”. This is really sickening. And it’s even more sickening to think that it may not cause a backlash, as would normally happen in a healthy society.

We will be posting the new developments as they come. Thanks for your support, our friends all over the world.

Imagine if it were ETA hoping to get this kind of reaction

The fact that a backpack with an unexploded bomb was found, and that the cellphone remote control has been linked to Arabs, all but proves that the Madrid massacre was the work of the Islamist Death Cult. This was evidence that was supposed to vaporize but didn't due to a malfunction.

When they say "Hindu" they mean people of the Indian sub-continent. More than likely these two individuals who are "Indian" are subcontinental Muslims, they may in fact be Pakistani. Lets face it - Islam is the antithesis of Hinduism. I sincerely hope they are not Indian Muslims since NO Indian Muslim has ever been involved in international terrorism.

I agree with you wholeheartedly and would wish to see these elections held at a later date for I imagine that "theory" I toyed with will also be one considered by many Spaniards.

I would hate to see an election won on emotion, only to discover later that the news reports had been all wrong OR, worse, that the government was holding back certain information that would have allowed the world to have formed a distinct opinon on who did this.

of course, I dont deny hoping they choose the present government

The "Sad Postcard" I posted was printed before this recent breaking news, plus its apparent that the bloggers are afraid, as they should be, that IF it is AQ, what it may do to bring down the present government

    Witness saw train killers
    13/03/2004 09:14 - (SA)
Madrid - A man presented by Spanish television as a witness who led police to a suspicious van after this week's deadly bombings said on Friday he had seen three men wearing balaclavas near the vehicle shortly before powerful blasts ripped through suburban trains killing 199 people.

The man, whose identity was not given, told TVE's Informe semanal program he had been surprised to see the trio wearing the winter gear in Alcala de Henares, east of the capital, even though temperatures were rather mild on Thursday morning when the attacks were carried out.

Two of the young men remained near the vehicle while the third, carrying a backpack and another bag and described as rather tall, headed to the Alcala train station from where the doomed trains departed for Madrid, he said.

After Thursday's attacks the man had told police about the suspicious van in which investigators later found seven detonators and an audio tape with Koranic verses.

Interior Minister Angel Acebes said Thursday the van had been reported stolen. The verses in Arabic were those "usually used to teach the Koran," and that they "did not contain any threat", he added.

The find added a new element to the investigation into the blasts, which went off in rush-hour morning trains, also wounding more than 1 400 people.

Unfortuntely we arent given a description and I wonder why?

They can always surrender and collaborate!
They are the best in the world in collaborating! None can surpass them in surrendering or cheese eating!!!

What a surrender? Find a European, or better yet, a Frenchman! That's what I, always say!
