Frederick Forsyth, the best-selling author, recently wrote an article picked up by the NY Time entitled: "Terrorism Rooted in 300-yr old Violent Sect". This is an excellent piece, and backed up by many diverse articles that I have read over the last few years tracing the roots of Wahhabism, the radical sect of Islam. The key point is that the Koran (or Quran) does not teach this hate and violence. Wahhabism, on the other hand, condemns about 90 percent of fellow Muslims as impure, along with all Christians, Jews, and other non-Muslims. In the Quran, it is made plain that because these two earlier religions worship the "one true God", that they are "people of the book" and must be tolerated. Christians, Jews, and Muslims have lived together in harmony under Muslim rulers across the middle east for centuries until now. Wahhab reclassified Christians and Jews as "mishrikun", idolators, worthy of death to extinction. Hence the global jihad against us all. Al Qaeda, the umbrella under which these believers operate, has no demands that we can ever satisfy, they seek no negotiations, and have only one aim, to kill us. A very hard concept for the western mind to grasp, but fact.
