Ironically, my preferred realisator is Satyajit Ray (yes is above Renoir, KSO). Ray is a genius, his films transform you. Absolute beauty, truth.
Yes he is brilliant but he is Indian, and I talking about france.

Pretty much, the United States has long been perceived by French intellectuals as the greatest extension of Anglo-Saxon civilization.
No I was wondering of french anti-americanism being "centuries" old, as you say.

    I think it's really a recent thing.
And anyway, centuries ago there were no USA!

indeed .. and I was saying that my preferred realisator is not french (but Jean Renoir is a genius too - and he had contacts with india and Ray). "Une partie de campagne" is my preferred film by him (but I still have to discover many of his films).

It's too hard to chose a favorite between Renoir's Films, I probably preffer "Boudu Saved from drowning" and that's just because of Michel Simon!

    He's great.

I am more keen on the esthetics aspects of a movie, that's why "partie de campagne" is my favorite.

And speaking of esthetics, I am a big fan of kielsowki too ("la double vie de véronique" was a mystical experience for me).

I really want this to be my last post to you. Please stop responding to my posts. I don't have time for you anymore. I won't even bother to check for a reply acknowledging that you were wrong...AGAIN!

    Centuries = More than One.

Evidence. Again, I will give you French authors:

    Why France disdains America
    John Vinocur International Herald Tribune
    Wednesday, October 9, 2002

PARIS Two new books by French authors, one at the top of the best-seller list, the other described as a work of exceptional scholarship, are confronting the French with the proposition that their anti-Americanism is a self-inflicted national illness.
    .
For one of the authors, the anti-Americanism of the French is a willful delusion, an attempt by a dominant political and intellectual caste to mask its own failures and insignificance.
    .
    For the other, French anti-Americanism is a centuries-old tradition - .....

Roger points to the period of 1750 to 1770, that of the gestation of the United States, as creating a philosophical and "scientific" foundation for the development of French anti-Americanism.
    .
Scholars of the French Enlightenment considered American plant and animal life degenerate, inferior to that in Europe. Children born in the New World were incapable of prolonged thought. Venereal disease had its home there. At the same time as the creation of the United States, and while a part of fashionable Paris was titillated by the Yankee insurgents, Roger writes, by 1778 in France a "a globally negative image of America was anchored in the literate public."

I'll be responding to your posts as much as I like, be it only to bring needed rectifications or additions.
(I guess some posters I have chosen to ignore do that already with my posts, and it's their right).

But obviously, the conversation is not going to go very far after that!

Finally, I do think I am right about your use of what I call "backstabbing" and it looks like this strategy is your latest idea to avoid admitting it (wether in public or even for yourself).

    America's image is going down
Have been away for a week or two from the 'puter and this is the first thread I see!

    This is news?
Kev and I were in Spain recently and I was surprised at how Europe had changed.

I'm blond blue eyed and British looking and have a touch of an accent at times and I was warmly greeted by everyone.
I didn't have to open my mouth for people just assumed I was European with a mere glance.

    Kevin?
It seemed to them he looks American and they were abrupt with him quite often until he mentioned he was Canadian.
Every time he did, there would be a huge sigh of relief and they would practically hug him for it.
    It never failed.
We would then be accosted by a scphiel (sp?) on antiAmericanism

It was the most absurd visit I have ever had in Europe as I have only ever been there on my own before.
But it certainly woke me up to how Americans were incorrectly viewed in the world today so don't let anyone fool you when they say that they don't hate Americans but only hate the Government.

That's akin to Europeans suggesting they only hate Israel but don't blame the Jews.

So in my opinion this article that has been posted is rather irrelevant and unimportant.

PS: how does one spell "Schpiel" correctly?

Hiya Kev! Nice to see you back. I hope you enjoyed your trip.

From dictionary.com, the correct spelling of that word is: spiel.

That reminds me, Yiddish is my favorite language. You can say anything you want with Yiddish and it sounds funny!

But I was unable to picture it and therefore spell it correctly.

And this is my opinion than pretending your are "hated by everyone" is the excuse you need to be a hater yourself.

No doubt that in Europe America is seen as messing up badly invading Iraq. So what? Does it surprise you?

Oh of course America was "always hated" . Everyone always hated america (with a special mention for the french of course). America was even "hated for centuries" by the french. Big joke.

For a start, go to work to repair the mess you did, your reputation is going to improve then.

I've seen about 3 dozen films in Paris. They were all American films subtitled in French.
