Barghouti admits involvement in planning terror attacks

    By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent
    Thursday, May 02, 2002

The head of the Fatah movement in the West Bank, Marwan Barghouti, told Shin Bet security service interrogators Thursday that he had been involved in planning terror attacks, in which dozens of Israeli civilians were wounded or killed.

Barghouti was arrested on April 15 during the IDF's "Operation Defensive Shield."

According to Shin Bet sources, Barghouti explained how funds were channeled from Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to those carrying out the attacks.

The Shin Bet said that by questioning Barghouti and other senior Fatah officials, it has become clear that Arafat authorized the transfer of monies to Fatah activists with the knowledge that it was to be used for terror attacks.

Similarly, they said, PA weapons storage facilities were used to provide arms for the activists.

In other news reported by Haaretz, flashing victory signs and giving a thumbs-up, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat emerged from his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Thursday, hours after IDF troops withdrew from the compound and released the Palestinian leader from months of confinement.

Arafat was greeted by a cheering crowd of hundreds of Palestinians as he walked out of his office building where he had been confined to a few rooms by IDF troops for more than a month.

Aides steadied the 72-year-old Arafat as he walked down a small flight of steps to a waiting black limousine.

The Palestinian leader smiled as the crowd chanted, "With our spirit and our blood, we will redeem you, oh Arafat."

    Thumbs down

Ah, but you know how women fall in love with convicted rapists and murderers. So what does proof of Arafat's terrorism involvement matter? No matter what he and his cronies are or do they still stay the heroes of the freedom-loving mankind :-(
Besides, you understand that Barghouti has certainly been brainwashed, tortured, coerced.....

torture is a common practise in israeli prisons (source: amnesty international)
of course Shin Bet is a neutral and objective source on this matter...
I don't believe barghouti nor Arafat were involved in killing civilians, unless i see proove... but it seems Israel doesn't like neutral observers and commissions to discover the truth... they prefere their own lies.
(ps: the "iranian" ship doesn't proove anything, first as i told before i have big questions about this and there is no neutral source, second, the weapons found were no arms to kill civilians but anti-tank weapons, grenades, etc. )

Reminds me of the last years of Leonid Brezhnev, in case (some of) you remember who it is.

I saw the weapons in question and again I state that you're a liar or ignorant.

This article doesn't matter. People either

    1) Already know some of the PA leaders are corrupt and support terrorism

    2) Don't care because they believe that "occupation" justifies terrorism

    3) No matter what the evidence shows they will never accept that some PA leaders support terrorism.

    hmmm

Didn't someone a few days ago demand to connect Yasser to direct terrorism?

I think this does a fair job of doing just that.

    Article:

It's Final: Arafat Paid For Terrorism
The fact that Yasser Arafat personally approved terrorist funding for Fatah has now become "unequivocally clear." So announced the Prime Minister's Office today, based on the questioning of senior Fatah terrorists in Israeli custody, including Marwan Barghouti. It has also been learned that explosive charges used by the terrorists were supplied from the Palestinian Authority's own weapons depots.

Israeli investigators have learned that Fatah head Marwan Barghouti, who maintained direct communications with Arafat, transferred money to Fatah operatives specifically for attacks targeting and killing many Israeli civilians. "These disclosures render absurd the public and international debate over whether Arafat is 'doing everything possible to prevent terrorism," the Prime Minister's Office stated, explaining that it is now clear that he indeed did 'everything possible' to promote, not prevent, terrorism.
