While on a tour of the museum at the Auschwitz death camp in Poland on Sunday, a group of around 50 Jewish university students from Israel, the U.S. and Poland were verbally attacked by a three-member gang of French male tourists.

Evidently incited by the presence of an Israeli flag wrapped around the shoulders of Tamar Schuri, an Israeli student from Ben Gurion University, the first assailant ran at the group while its members were being guided through a model gas chamber and crematoria and began swearing and hurling anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli insults.

"He told us to go back to Israel and said that we were stupid and should be ashamed to walk around with an Israeli flag," testifies Maya Ober, a 21-year-old Polish student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and member of the Polish Union of Jewish Students (PUSZ), which organized the 16-day summer learning program along with the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS).

After the initial altercation, a second assailant
grabbed Ober by the arm. "One of the guys held me by the arm and wouldn't let go," says Ober, who lost several members of her family at Auschwitz. "I was afraid. I couldn't move and I didn't know what he was going to do.

"I was shocked. Although I have met anti-Semitism many times, I never expected to meet it at Auschwitz, where so many of my relatives were killed," she says she spoke to the assailants in French and that in addition to being "brutish and vulgar," their sentiments "made absolutely no sense."

Also we have never said we don't have idiot antisemitic people in France , this event being a proof , but don't extend it to the whole French population please.

The French keep on telling us that they are "not antisemitic" and that they have the largest Jewish population in Europe.

It is amazing that now Jews cannot walk in peace in a Jewish cemetry in Poland without being attacked by French citizens.

However I am surprised that these bums were visiting the camp. Maybe they were on a school trip too. Were they French Arabs or French leftists or French fascists?

I hope the Polish police arrested them. The article says nothing.


When I visit Auschwitz one day I will certainly look over my back for French tourists.

As far as I'm concerned, when that "assailant" grabbed that girl by the arm, all bets were off. Not only was he verbally threatening, but he laid hands on someone (a woman) without her permission.

I think taking one of his fingers and bending it as far back as possible, or until I heard a nice >CRACK< and his scream, would have been quite satisfying. That, and a nice lingering whimper when I kicked his private parts into the back of his throat.

Unfortunately, I'm certain that if the students had moved to protect themselves, then the headline the next day would have been, "50 Jewish Students Threaten and Attack 3". I still wish they would have.

This assault is a travesty, especially considering where it took place.

We can’t continue to react passively to racial thuggery; but, perhaps the students didn’t react because they were on sacrosanct ground. I agree with Mediocrates, as I would have reacted by getting my own back, however, that’s me.
It indicates that not much has changed since Auschwitz and other camps were methodically murdering Jews. Repugnantly, there seem to be many who would support these camps being re-established once again. Pardon, while I go and kick the dog… don’t worry, it’s an imaginary one.

Sort of, but not all, it's best to fight the 'wankers', agreed, as it is only going to get worse with time. I hate being pessimistic, but that's the way I see it, too.

Yes that's eggs actly what our dear German friends always say...... that they murdered 6 million Jews or 90% of West European Jewry but really German people are very nice and most were really not Nazis and they were all against Hitler and anyway they really did not know and that you must not generalise.

You French and Germans are very close and I see why: you both have a lot in common with each other.
