I don't understand what 1TB 500MB attachments means. Does that mean you can have 2000 pieces of mail with 500MB each? Or is that the total volume of the attachments with 1TB being some bogus figure.

I wonder what it would take to send them 500MB.

Drats, I just tried to send myself a 3d map of the genomic structure of all the citizens of Omaha! Just kidding. We'll probably live to see the days of gigapixel cameras that hold a thousand shots. Who needs compression algorithms when you've got unlimited memory.

Well its great that hotmail has finally moved beyond a 2-friggen megabyte E-mail account, since most probably they would have done nothing if Google hand't launched 1 gig Gmail.

Although 1 Terabyte is just overkill

You can get a 1TB desktop storage appliance that connects to your home LAN now. LaCie makes a 1TB Firewire800/400/USB box for $900. SCSI4ME makes something similar in a SATA/SCSI unit for a lot more money. Usually they are ganged RAID complexes.

1 Terabyte is quite a lot for the average person. I know that I don't even need close to the 200 gigs high-end hard drives have now. Instead, I got a small, 80 gig, but high-quality Seagate drive for only $60 instead of several hundred bucks for alot of space I'll never need.

I think that those drives are more for people who do CGI development, etc, or just a novelty, but generally I dislike storing on harddrives as they are prone to total-lose crashes which can be kinda frustrating

I'm more looking forward to totally new style hard drives, non-mechanical ones that can be much faster and more reliable. THere is talk of using Carbon Nanotubes for the bits, a small charge will bend it up, breaking the contact, and another charge bend it down onto a plate, creating a bit Or, there is bit-for-bit magnetic reading/writing where each bit has its own read/write head.

One day we may have hard-drives as fast, or faster than RAM
