The UN just won't let it go

Gaza 'to stay under Israeli rule'

Palestinian movement outside Gaza will remain restricted
International law will continue to view Israel as an occupying force in Gaza, even after its planned withdrawal, says a United Nations human-rights envoy.
John Dugard said Israel would remain responsible for Palestinian civilians in the territory, as it planned to retain control of Gaza's borders.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon plans to withdraw soldiers and settlers from the Gaza Strip while maintaining overall control of the territory's land, sea and air borders.

Mr Dugard, a South African law professor who serves as the UN's special rapporteur for human rights in the region, said Israel would remain responsible for the welfare of Palestinian civilians because it does not intend to "relinquish its grasp on Gaza Strip".

Gazans' movements into Israel are "restricted" - duh? Is this moron saying that every Gazan Palestinian must be freely allowed into Israel - a completely different country? Even Canadians going into America have to pass a border control.

Dopey Dugard should read up on history (but it is too much to expect that this cretin can actually read). If what he says is true about responsibility, that when an occupying force leaves an area that is not totally stable, then the Brits were the only ones responsible for all the deaths of the 1948 war.

Israel is the only nation on the planet not allowed to control its own borders?

    why are you surprised?

The UN/some of its subsidiaries/other international bodies will always find a way to blame Jews. In addition, there will also be some Jews loved and respected by the haters of Jews/Israel who will blame Israel/other Jews for not doing enough to help Israel's neighbors.

The Jewish existence and our survival as Jews will always be challenged.

the UN is out to destroy Israel

Well said, Toga, they and most of the world will cobble something together to blame the Jews/Israelis. It is so damn blatant, it makes me nauseous. Why don’t they dismantle the UN, lock, stock and barrel and put it in Iran, Syria or France. After all, it’s no more than a front for the Third World Mafia, patronizing terrorism, anti-Israel/Semites and the USA, and a load of money laundering. Then there's the EU but that's for another time!

I subscribe to the notion that the U.N. is exceedingly flawed, perhaps beyond redemption, especially when it concerns Israel. But as it is the only game in town, as it were, I am not yet in favor of it being scrapped...Not yet, anyway.

The U.N. is a racket, supported by U.S., Western European, and Japanese taxpayers. It is a vehicle whereby diplomats from Middle Eastern, Asian, and African hell-holes can live an all-expense paid life of leisure in swanky locales such as New York or Geneva on the backs of the industrialized world, while their fellow country-men wallow in poverty and disease.

Yes, the U.N. is flawed, and it is a racket, but it is also our fault it got this way. With minor exceptions such as UNESCO, the U.S. continues to support this bloated bureaucracy of anti-Semitism, corruption, hatred of Western values, footing 25% of the budget. If Congress were to threaten to turn off the gravy train, the urgency of reform in the U.N. would be make your head spin. Like any other common criminal, until the U.S. gets tough on the racketeers, what is the incentive to change?

I suppose he doesn't mean that Israel should stop controlling the Israel-Gaza border, but that Israel should stop policing the border between Gaza and Egypt and the sea and air travel routes out of Gaza...

Then again, its the UN we are talking about, the worst interpretation is probably the correct one...

I agree, however the worst interpretation may actually be better than the mess that the UN is capable of making.

If Israel stops controlling the Gaza/Egypt border along with sea & air access, then let the arms smuggling begin, in earnest.

P.S. And your right the UN wants Israel eliminated. Nothing new their.
