    Congratulations LONDON 2012!!!

It couldn't happen to a better ally as our friends: the (Great) British.

The Olympic Games is one of the greatest celebrations of being alive that humanity has come up with.

Being a part of it is a genuinely enthralling experience. We can forget all the - perfectly true, no doubt - guff about what the Games will do for posterity. After all, posterity has never done much for us.

The point is now: and the Olympic Games hands the world and the world's chosen city 17 days of unbridled celebration of being alive.

Of course, it so good to see the French lose yet again, and yes I know it's
    not polite to gloat............BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahaha!!!!

Looks like Chirac has screwed le pooch again. Open another bottle of wine, Paris. And weep!

(the two Finnish IOC delegates, after hearing ChIraq diss their cuisine, probably voted for Great Britain : )

we still have the satisfaction to have been ahead of the USA

it's ok don't worry , it will prevent us from losing money from all this. And London isn't far away.

" ahead of the USA” ?

You mean: The People’s Democratic Republic of New York City

Senator Hillary Clinton is already blaming the Bush administration of “unduly influencing the IOC towards London” – which is a bunch of caca.

The 2012 Olympics was supposed to be Hillary's big coup.

If NYC was chosen Hillary Clinton would have been given all the credit. She would have appeared every day for the next month on the Today Show (and right before any elections) reminding all the soccer mom's of her great triumph.

Who cares. Britain and France are nearly the same.

Jokes going around London because of Chirac:

Why do all French men have moustaches? Because they want to look like their mothers.

Where is it safe to hide your money in France? Under a bar of soap.

I was rather hoping Paris would win, just to annoy Ken Livingstone.

It was a hard choice indeed between Livingstone and Chirac, though God knows where they will both be in 2012.

Yet I am glad England won.

Exactly. Makes me sick also that London won. They can go jump in the Thames with Livingstone.

The British at least have a great sense of humour. So do the French in a different way but the British have the best in addition to the Egyptians, Americans and Jews.

London won, but without Chirac's negative comments about British and Finnish food it might not have won!

Finland's members in the IOC meeting, Peter Tallberg and Jari Kurri, have not revealed which country they voted for, but at least Tallberg's comments have been very favourable for London.

So, did Chirac's comments, or whatever the French Liberation paper came up with, lead to the decision? They may have.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...682383,00.html

"TWO votes that Paris can probably not rely on are those of Peter Tallberg and Jari Kurri, Finland’s IOC members. During his cultural tirade against Britain, Jacques Chirac managed also to insult Finnish chefs by putting the Scandinavian country at the bottom of the world’s culinary league. “After Finland,” the French President said, Britain was “the country with the worst food”. Perhaps Chirac should avoid Kurri in particular. The Finn, a former ice hockey champion, owns a publishing company called Kurri Productions."

I'm told that most foreigners don't really get it when we're sarcastic.
Apparently the jokes in a series called Red Dwarf had to be rewritten for an American audience.

I'm cautiously glad that we got the games. I have my doubts about our ability to pull it off successfully.
