Most (99.99%) of the Indians are natives of India in the sense that even if they are Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, ...their forefathers were natives of India. You will be surprised to know that many from neighbouring countries also hide their identity and pretend to be Indians. Many of my Jewish friends even though born and brought up all over the world feel tremendous attachement towards Israel.

Or may be it's our brown skin that keep us in India. Or our flair for arguments (Read below an excerpt from latest book by Amartya Sen)!!

May you should rephrase your question as "What is it about your Indian identity that keeps you as Indians, even though living all over the world including America?

    Arjun,

I assume you are a "diaspora Indian". I can understand the parallels that you might draw with the mentality of the diaspora Jews. However, I want to examine the Indian identity as connected to and living in the Indian homeland. I realize that Indians are proud, and not so proud, along the timeline of your long history, as are the Jews of 3,500 years.

However, I want to know about the Indian sense of National purpose as a united sovereign people.

Maybe you have a deficiency of grey matter. You need a CAT scan.
I'll start off more simply with this question:

Why do you chatterbox Indians remain in India, your native homeland, instead of moving to say,- America?
Your insolence has lost you the dignity of being relpied to.

    It looks very appetising.

Mr Chacko says that it is available in Mumbai (Bombay). Therefore, it should be available where I stay too. Your post will surely make me scout around for this interesting fast food.

Thank you for the trouble you took including posting the picture of the Falafel.
Jewish from Arab countries brought many interesting variety of food

From Yemen we been introduce to jahnun, melavvach humus, thina from Iraq kube... etc we also have Chinese and Japanese food but we had bad criticism from Chinese themselves saying our way of cooking their food can not be compare well we don’t eat snake and insects so it is obvious will obscure on the taste

Just a reminder all of these food I mention here and before not advisable for these who maintain healthy way of life.

Chinese food as made in India is of the spicy variety, even the chinese cannot make it as good as us. But then this is the contribution of the Chinese who settled in India in the 1930s.
Snake meat is quite good, it tastes a like fish/chicken.

    ylalq1,

    Thanks.

I never knew there were such dishes to try out.

I am very moderate in my eating, but there is no harm in trying out every type of cuisine.

I like Chinese Calcutta style since the hardly use any oil! More on sauces!

If I visit Israel, what would be your recommendation that I try?

Would be grateful if you segregated the dishes for the meals i.e. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In our army, we have the commando course where we have to catch and eat snakes to be trained for living off the land.

I am no expert on food

And to recommend it is a problem cause in real… yet been establish what is national food in Israel… even if majority points out it is the falafel in pita I find it a weak statement as it known to Arabic countries as well.

Israel as United States combines from different milieu of folks and every each brought something from the country he/she came and emerge it as part of the popular esse.

In Israel there are different types of people these who are keep licit (kosher) and these who are not

And there are restaurants as in the city like tel aviv and etc that also serve not licit food so for visitors will be no trouble to eat what they want only in licit restaurants there will be restrictions which is the food allowed to be served especially on meat department

    Me I am keeping licit

When you come you will immediately recognize what are the dishes for the meals

You write you were in the army it ease your visit here cause for militants veteran it is paradise imo

The snake it is a last resort in emergency situation as in war and no food besides it available and etc

In Russia soldiers learn that everything live with salt eatable

    I have heard of "kosher".

Could you explain what this actually is?

Sorry, if I am digressing from the subject of the thread, but then I am interested and so I am keen to know.

    Mediocrates,

    Thank you.

The link was most educative. I do wish the scientific reasons were also given because, in some communities of India meat and milk are not mixed in preparation as fish is not mixed with milk in any dish.

Or the issue of ensuring that there is no residual blood.

There must be good scientific reasons for the same.

Since the process of preparing Kosher or glatt kosher food is very elaborate, I presume such food products will also be more expensive. How does the Kosher logo look like?

May I recommend a thread/ forum/ sub forum (since I am new and possibly cannot start a thread) that allows non Jewish and non Israelis to ask questions to know more about Jewish and Israeli life, the lifestyle, the food habits, the various religious festivals, the campaigns fought in recent times etc?

I suggest you post your questions in the "Religion/Culture" section below.
