Post Israeli reservists refuse to serve in the occupied territories

"We were raised to be officers with values and they have turned us into combatants who deal in bloodshed and war crimes."

"We hereby declare we will no longer fight in the war for the welfare of the settlements in the territories,"

"We understand today that the price of the occupation is loss of the humane image of the Israeli Defence Forces and corruption of the entire Israeli society"

"received orders and instructions that had nothing to do with the security of the state and whose sole purpose is the perpetuation of our domination of the Palestinian people."

"They speak of soldiers shooting and abusing Palestinian civilians, of army lies and cover-ups. "

Here is full text of petition which over half a thousands IDF soldiers signed and which was hushed up by the American media:

Here's the text of the Soldiers Petition:

We, reserve combat officers and soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, who were raised upon the principles of Zionism, sacrifice and giving to the people of Israel and to the State of Israel, who have always served in the front lines, and who were the first to carry out any mission, light or heavy, in order to protect the State of Israel and strengthen it.
We, combat officers and soldiers who have served the State of Israel for long weeks every year, in spite of the dear cost to our personal lives, have been on reserve duty all over the Occupied Territories, and were issued commands and directives that had nothing to do with the security of our country, and that had the sole purpose of perpetuating our control over the Palestinian people. We, whose eyes have seen the bloody toll this Occupation exacts from both sides.
We, who sensed how the commands issued to us in the Territories, destroy all the values we had absorbed while growing up in this country.
We, who understand now that the price of Occupation is the loss of IDF’s human character and the corruption of the entire Israeli society.
We, who know that the Territories are not Israel, and that all settlements are bound to be evacuated in the end.
We hereby declare that we shall not continue to fight this War of the Settlements. • We shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire people.
We hereby declare that we shall continue serving in the Israel Defense Forces in any mission that serves Israel’s defense.
The missions of occupation and oppression do not serve this purpose – and we shall take no part in them."

I've never heard "1/2 1000" used instead of "500". Is it similar to the joke about the half-full and half-empty glass?

Civil action is within the parvue of actions available to reservists. That is what a free society permits:

    1) they must also be prepared to accept the consequences of that action including arrest and imprisonment as is the norm of every other society on earth including the peaceful peaceloving peoples of peace of Palistan

    2) the number is actually quite tiny - if you think it's some kind of groundswell you are delusional. in a nation of millions of soldiers, several hundred activists does not a national movement make.

The reservists sit out is a myth. There was a counter-petition condeming those refusing to serve, that dwarfed this one by far.

I don’t know how an Arab counts but the article mentions 200 soldiers.
Do you guys start counting from 300?

In any event there’s always going to be people that don’t want to serve. The petition and the story wasn’t covered up by the American media it had media coverage.

You must be really arrogant if you think you can post Arab propaganda pictures on an Israeli forum without permission. Don’t you guys have enough sites on the web with Arab propaganda?
