UNESCO rewards a Jew hater for "cultural understanding"

Remember Mikis Theodorakis? The guy who wrote the music to "Zorba the Greek" and the Palestinian anthem? The same Theodorakis that claimed that the Jews are the root of all evil, that they control the banks, the media, the US and the symphonic orchestras?

    Well guess bloody what:

In an international jury meeting held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, it was decided to award the IMC UNESCO International Music Prize for 2005 to Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, who turned 80 this year.

Initiated in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin, the prestigious IMC UNESCO International Music Prize was established to honour musicians or musical institutions whose activities have contributed to the enrichment and development of music and have served peace, understanding between peoples, international cooperation and other purposes proclaimed by the United Nations Charter and UNESCO’s Constitution. Past recipients of the IMC Music Prize include Dimitri Shostakovich, Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Herbert von Karajan, Cesaria Evora and Mercedes Sosa, among others.

    Anyone surprised?
“This is a reality but I won’t deal with it in terms of recognizing or admitting it.”

    surprised?

    Well....it is EUrope.

EUtopia has more ethnic-cleansing, mass-graves, conflicts and wars per capita than any other place on this planet.

UNESCO is also in Paris - I'm not at all surprised.

    Slightly Off Topic Sorry Womble

"EUtopia has more ethnic-cleansing, mass-graves, conflicts and wars per capita than any other place on this planet. "

Illuminatus - Europe kind of had a head start in this compared to America doesn't it? 1776 / 7 was'nt it? Don't worry, i think you are catching up in gore.

I was watching a lecture about the Black Death 1348-51. As the plague spread north from Italy the thing that was fairly consistent from city to city was that there were huge spikes in antisemitic violence. As soon as the plague came, a town's Jews were rounded up and killed, burned, etc. Of course the plague came anyway but this didn't stop them.

    Not entirely true.

The Pope himself vigorously defended the jews.

Yeah, I think some christian authority figures whether secular or ecclesiastical, did a lot to protect some Jews from rabid persecution. Whether it was from altruistic reasons or because they could loan money from them is another question...

Yes Clement VI issued numerous Bulls in Avignon. Their effect was negligiable.

    ● Ossian wrote [.. Whether it was from altruistic reasons or because they could loan money from them is another question.....]

I see that the “question” still slithers in the collective memory of Europeans.

    ● The following is the most recent interview between Haaretz and Theodorakis.

Theodorakis denies that he is anti-Semitic. Rather, he is just upset that besides controlling the music, financial, and media industries, the Jews control the Bush Administration (which, along with the Sharon administration, he accuses of pursuing "Nazi" policies)

Sounding just like the Losing Left……..

Haaretz: So today's globalized capitalism is controlled very much by the Jews?

"Since we speak frankly, I will tell you something else. The Jewish people control most of the big symphonic orchestras in the world. When I wrote the Palestinian national anthem, the Boston Symphony was planning a production of my work. It is controlled by Jewish people. They didn't allow the concert to go on. Since then I cannot work with any great orchestra. They refuse me."

Haaretz: You ran into this problem with other orchestras too?

"Wherever there are Jews. Wherever there are orchestras controlled by Jewish people, they boycott my work."

Haaretz: You really feel Jews control much of the music world?

    "Yes."

Haaretz: And the same applies to world finance?

"In America the Jewish community is very strong. It controls much of the economy. Certainly the mass media.

The Haaretz interview via Clayton Cramer

    ● But then he’s my kind of guy though, when asked if he still thought the Jews were still the “root of all evil” – he modified his answer saying that “Bush is the root of all evil” (I assume that Bush’s tax cuts are included : )

Interesting that Theodorakis remembered that he:

[…was a member of a fascist youth movement. It was a state-sponsored movement during the dictatorship of Ioannis Metaxas. We walked up and down the streets in uniform and heiled all the time. It was a bit like the Hitler Youth but comical. ..]

UNESCO? In Europe? Why on earth would a music award to people like this be a surprise?

When he picks up his award, I sure hope they softly play:

It's not so much that this antisemitic racist or that one gets an award. Nor is it the fact that most UN sub organizations have legitimized and institutionalized that mindset. We accept that too. Taken together I suppose it starts to look a little foolish on their part though. It's as if the UN declared International Chicken Salad and Jews are Evil, Day. And they expect us to take them seriously....

Isn't this one the UN rather than Europe?
I know you hate both but couldn't you at least pick the right one to attack to fit the thread?
