Russia and India join efforts to become strategic partners

    Don't miss this new

The two countries aim to launch large-scale defense projects and stand up for Iran's right to work on its nuclear program

The recent visit of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Russia has proved it again that Moscow officials do have good skills in finding political and economic allies. It is difficult to say which of the two states - Russia or India - is more interested in cooperation. It is not really important to know the answer for this question, taking into consideration the fact that there are too many fields, which Russia and India can gain mutual profit from. Vladimir Putin and Manmohan Singh

India, the economic rise of which has been gaining five percent for several years already, is in dire need of energy carriers first and foremost. India supposedly purchases 70 percent of the consumed oil abroad. Needless to say that Russia may come in handy for India at this point.

In addition, India is very interested in Russian arms. It is noteworthy that the two countries have finished the purchase-and-sale period in their relations. The current level of bilateral ties between the two countries allows them to think about launching joint projects in the defense field. The development of a new pursuit plane of the fifth generation could be a good example of such intentions.

As for India acquiring Russian weapons, one should mention something about two other largest purchasers of Russian defense technologies: China and Iran (the latter has been gradually increasing its orders with the Russian defense complex). Both Chinese, Russian and Indian officials have recently acknowledged that the three countries were very close to achieving the genuine strategic partnership. A lot of specialists, however, said that China and India would never be able to avoid bitter rivalries in their aspiration to accomplish regional and global leadership.

Russia and India have been taking efforts to attract Iran in the large-scale Eurasian partnership. One can see Russian and Indian officials defending Tehran's interests on the international political arena, especially when it comes to the current debate of the Iranian nuclear program. President Putin and Indian Prime Minister Singh touched upon this subject during their recent talks in Moscow. There is every reason to believe that the two leaders have confirmed their intentions to stand up for Tehran's right to work on its nuclear projects if they are based on peaceful initiatives, of course.

Russia expects a lot from its Indian partners. It may seem surprising, but India, in which 25 percent of its billion-strong population live below the poverty line, can become a very good investor for the Russian economy.

It goes without saying that Russia and India will continue running a close political cooperation too. The Indian prime minister said during a press conference in Moscow that there was practically no international issue left in the world, which could be solved without Russia's participation in it.

Err ...where is the bit about India supporting iranian missile or nuclear program? .Russia just sold some SAM's, but they are purely defensive in nature. Looks like some religious groups have a heartburn due to israeli and indian defence co-operation.

LoL stratergic relations with russia is good, but only an idiot would believe in India having statergic relations with China or Iran?Hell we even have an oil-gas pipeline from oman, I guess that makes us arabs stratergic al-lie?

Actually what happened to US-India strategic relations?

I thought India was going to do a 180 degree turn Pakistan style and drop Russia and seek American patronage? I guess the Russians are desperate to keep India on its side and dont want to see India tilt towards the US to much, Already India is interested in buying US hardware and the US is even more interested in selling. One can only imagine how the Russians are feeling.

Indo US relations are going fine. Why has pakistan stopped begging US for a similar nuke deal. . Wait till the MRCA deal, americans have no chance of winning it. French and russians all the way even the americans know this.

The nuclear deal with India is not really a problem; Pakistan can just buy more nuclear reactors from China, But really I ask what will happen to poor old Russian when India and US relations become at the 'strategic' level? Who is going to buy Russian equipment if India starts buying American?

Anyway I dont think there will be any 'war' as such between India-Pakistan again; I think both sides know full well that it will become a nuclear war; Thats not to say Pakistan wont lauch raids through its proxies into Indian territory or promote "human resources" in other parts of India, namely Punjab, Nagaland, Kashmir and even perhaps some Muslim-Hindu problems.

Pakistan is playing the same game it played with the USSR, except this time Pakistan is an ABC weapons state (Atomic, Chemical, Biological).

    Strange times we live in.

Pakistan can't afford to buy cheap frigates from china and need a loan for it . Will you be begging US for the money too. Pakistan has proxies in india. lol lol lol ..oh my god you are seriously delusional. India will crush pakistan in less than 2 days if a war ever breaks out. India has already increased problems in baluchistan and covert help from afghanistan will see to it that NWFP also remains on the boil . Pakistan s in the pant and runs to US every time India brings forces to border. pakistan has a lot of violence in 2 of its 4 provinces you can thank ISI and RAW for everything.

Yes but what you fail to note is that all of India will be atomized; India is fully within range of Pakistani missiles, The proxy war like I said will continue unhindered, The Idea is to bleed India, India knows the costs of war with Pakistan are to high and so thats why it takes it beating regularly in the form of riots, bomb blasts, insurgencies and the like, Even Bangladesh is doing a good job in assam and I commend them for that.

Besides by 2050 India will be 50% Muslim. I dont think half of India will be happy to see the Muslims of Pakistan attacked, Bang! You got Civil war on your hands between Muslims and Hindus if India even thought of attacking

By 2050 Pakistans population will be around 360million making it the fourth largest population after India 1.6bn, China and the US.

So thats 360 million people living in a country only twice the size of california. Obviously this kind of population is far to high; I needs to be controlled to around 200 million.

Pakistans nuclear weapons are aimed only at India no-one else.
