NPR said he was born in Washington and his parents are Palestinian. I don't know where this convert info is coming from but it's erroneous. NPR said he and his parents were devout Muslims, and not converts as initially reported.

A former reader emails today to pass along a firsthand account of the shooting at Fort Hood on Thursday. It's unedited except for paragraph breaks:

I was walking into the medical SRP building when he started firing (he never made it to the main SRP building....the media accounts are understandably pretty off right now). He was calmly and methodically shooting everyone. Like every non-deployed military post, no one was armed. For the first time in my life I really wish I had a weapon.
don't know how to explain what it feels like to have someone shoot at you while you're unarmed. He missed me but didn't miss a lot of others. Just pure random luck. It's a very compressed area, thus the numbers.

I saw a lot of heroism. So many more would have died if this wasn't an Army post. We're almost all CLS trained and it made a huge difference. Cause the EMTs didn't get there for almost an hour (they thought there was a second shooter). I just can't believe one of our own shot us. When I saw his ID card I couldn't believe it. After he shot the female police officer he was fumbling his reload and I saw the other police officer around the corner and yelled at him to come shoot the shooter. He did. Then I used my belt as a tourniquet on the female officer.

And already I am hearing that it's "because of American wars" that people stress out.. the allegations are that poor major Hasan - though never beeing in these battlefronts - was traumatized by the look of some soldiers he had to treat after returning from Iraq.
THe fact that he was a brainwashed moslem jihadist is obviously mentioned -as really how can you cover it - but the "analysis" quickly jumps away from it into self-accusation and guilt-inducing criticism of America.
And yes, America is guilty. Guilty of trusting moslem murderers, guilty of giving them an opportunity to commit such crime. But mostly guilty of stubborn denial of the fact that their credulous beliefs, their militant ideology of islam is the core reason of tis crime and many others.

How to weed out Jihadists from the military without starting a debacle that was done to the Japanese citizens in WWII?

This is something that is going to be an ongoing problem.......whose a Jihadist and whose a person that is a peaceful individual of the Islamic persuasion? Can't read peoples minds, but maybe their cyber screeds will help?
